Artist Statement 2007
Psychic Automatism or the automatic gesture has been an important tool for me for almost ten years. It was used by the Surrealists to create images without
a priori that could be developed later or left alone as a final product. It was felt the truest images came from the artist’s subconscious. This method of
image development has been instrumental in a number of my works including the "Ish" and "Retsina" series.
The landscape has always been an important aspect of my work as well. Inspiration for my abstract landscapes comes from the Northeast
and the Southwest. The "Slate Prints" are from roofing slates rescued from an old building that was being razed. This uses intimate elements
of the landscape to create art directly.
